Vbd Dance Crew Crowned Ugandas Best At Tusker Lite Neon Raves Finale
The story
VBD Dance Crew were on Saturday crowned champions of the Tusker Lite Neon Raves national dance competition after a spectacular finale that showcased some of Uganda's finest dance talent.
The competition, held at Next Media Park in Kampala, brought together 18 dance crews from Hoima, Masaka, Mbarara, Arua, Gulu and Kampala, all competing for the national title after emerging among the top three crews in their respective regional contests.

Before the finale, the dancers underwent intensive mentorship at Nyungu Ya Mawe, where they were coached by renowned dancers, including Tusker Lite influencers DVD Afroking and Dance Mamweta, members of Trojans Dance Crew and other industry mentors. The sessions focused on refining choreography, storytelling and stage performance ahead of the grand finale.
The competition featured a variety of elaborate performances, with crews using costumes, props and theatrical storytelling to distinguish themselves. One group incorporated a live chicken into its routine, while others explored themes of heartbreak, identity, cultural pride, tradition, community and mentorship of the boy child.
The performances were judged by Dance Mamweta, DVD Afroking, Roy Tumwizire and Gaetano Kaggwa.
Roy Tumwizire said the judges looked beyond technical ability when selecting the winners.
"The crews that stood out were the ones that remained united throughout their routines. We looked at originality, audience engagement, storytelling and how well every member contributed to the performance. The best teams didn't just dance; they connected with everyone watching," he said.
Among the standout performances was RP Dance Crew from Kasubi, whose emotionally charged routine explored heartbreak, healing and learning to love again. The performance earned prolonged applause and a standing ovation from all four judges.
