Buganda Kingdom Unveils Shs Billion Budget For Financial Year

Buganda Kingdom has unveiled a Shs 409.315 billion budget for the 2026/2027 financial year, representing a 34 percent increase from the previous financial year’s budget of Shs 320.508 billion.
The budget is anchored on the theme: “Raising Standards: Enhancing Quality and Professionalism in the Effort to Restore Buganda to Greater Heights.”

It was presented during a sitting of the Buganda Lukiiko at Bulange, Mengo, presided over by Speaker Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule and Deputy Speaker Ahamed Lwasa.
The session was attended by Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, Buganda Kingdom ministers, central government officials, county chiefs, religious leaders including Archbishop of Kampala Paul Ssemogerere, Supreme Mufti Muhammad Galabuzi, Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi, Lukiiko members and other invited guests.
Presenting the financial statement, the Kingdom’s Treasurer and Second Deputy Katikkiro, Robert Waggwa Nsibirirwa, said the budget is aimed at strengthening service delivery, improving institutional efficiency and promoting the socio-economic wellbeing of the people of Buganda.
“This budget focuses on improving agriculture, tourism, healthcare, education and decent housing as key drivers of socio-economic transformation,” Nsibirirwa said.
He also thanked the central government for the Shs 38 billion it provided to the Kingdom during the previous financial year.
Nsibirirwa noted that the Kingdom will continue investing in strategic development initiatives, including the Nvubo Project, a digital platform designed to facilitate financial transactions for Kingdom projects through electronic payment systems.
